Homeless Prevention Rental Assistance

What is Homeless Prevention Rental Assistance?
Financial assistance for past due rent.
Must Do:
*If residing in Shawnee County, all rental assistance requests must go through a single access point, the Equity.Access.Shelter (EAS) Program at the City of Topeka. To schedule an intake with EAS, call 785-368-9533, email at EAS@topeka.org; or visit the website at www.topeka.org/eas/.
Eligibility Requirements:
Must have an eviction notice from a current Landlord;
• Show proof of residency within the service area;
• Not received rental assistance from any other service provider within the past 12 months;
• Provide proof of income (Social Security, wages, etc.) for the past 90 days demonstrating the applicant meets income eligibility guidelines;
• Provide a valid government issued photo ID;
• Provide a valid, current lease agreement;
• And other specific information based on the applicant’s circumstance and request for assistance.
Rapid Rehousing Rental Assistance
What is it?
Financial Assistance to currently homeless or unhoused individuals and families.
Must Do:

Must meet the federal definition of homelessness;
Provide proof of income (Social Security, wages, etc.) for the past 90 days demonstrating the applicant meets income eligibility guidelines;
Provide a valid government issued photo ID;
Secure a place to live within budget guidelines;
And other specific information based on the applicant’s circumstance and request for assistance.
