Diaper Depot

Diaper Depot is a program designed to help families combat the growing costs of diapers across the country. Clean diapers are a basic need of every baby and toddler.

Qualifying families receive 50 diapers per month, for children 0-35 months of age, who reside in the parent or caregiver’s home within Shawnee County. Once enrolled, the family is provided a pack of 50 diapers every month during the scheduled Diaper Depot distribution week (first full week of the month). Diapers are distributed at the Hancock Center during regular business hours between 8am and 5pm Monday through Friday. Diapers are only distributed on the Diaper Depot distribution week.

1 in 2 U.S. Families cannot afford enough diapers to keep their infant or child clean, dry, and healthy. These babies are more vulnerable to painful rashes and urinary tract infections and have more trips to the doctor.

3 in 5 parents miss work or school because they can't afford the diapers required to leave their baby in Childcare.

Program Eligibility

To be eligible for the Diaper Program, the following must be true:

  • For a family enrolled in the Diaper Depot Program, the family must maintain their eligibility status throughout the enrollment period of one year.

  • When the enrolled child approaches the age of 3, a letter will be sent to the family alerting them that the child/family will be removed from the program upon the child’s 3rd birthday.

  • The child must reside in Shawnee County, Kansas.

To get started, complete the basic intake online form or visit the Hancock Center. Once the intake is received a Community Action member will contact you to schedule an appointment.

  • For a family enrolled in the Diaper Depot Program, the family must maintain their eligibility status throughout the enrollment period. If the family (or child) moves outside of Shawnee County, the Parent/Guardian must notify Community Action immediately and will be removed from the program. Additionally, if the household income increases above 200% of the poverty guidelines, the Parent/Guardian must notify Community Action immediately so they can be removed from the program due to no longer meeting the eligibility criteria.

When the enrolled child approaches the age of 3, a letter will be sent to the family alerting them that the child/family will be removed from the program upon the enrolled child turning 3.

  • The capacity for the Diaper Depot program is dependent upon the number of diapers Community Action has received from donations or grants. Once program capacity is reached, a waiting list is maintained. Children will be placed on the waiting list in the order in which their intake paperwork was received and will be moved to the active program roster as positions become available.

Every month, we distribute approximately 6,000 diapers, ensuring babies stay healthy and comfortable. Our diaper program relies heavily on donations, with a significant portion coming from community-driven efforts. Various agencies and organizations host Diaper Drives on our behalf, rallying their members to collect and donate diapers. These drives are crucial in helping us meet the high demand and ensuring no baby goes without this basic necessity.
