What utility assistance?
Financial assistance for past due utility bills when the service is pending disconnection or already disconnected.
Eligibility Requirements
Must have a disconnect notice from an electric, natural gas, or water utility company;
Show proof of residency within the service area;
Not received utility assistance from any other service provider within the past 12 months;
Provide proof of income (social security, wages, etc.) from the past 90 days demonstrating the applicant meets income eligibility guidelines;
Provide a valid government issued photo ID;
Provide a valid lease agreement for the address where the utility service is located;
Provide a current utility bill showing the utility service and bill are in the applicant’s name and at the applicant’s current address;
And other specific information based on the applicant’s circumstance and request for assistance.
How to Apply?
Complete the basic intake form and a member of Community Action will contact you to set up a meeting with further information required.
All applicants must participate in an intake and assessment meeting with a Family Empowerment Specialist. When scheduling this appointment, plan for a time when you can spend at least one hour at the appointment and plan to provide all the required documents and information at the time of your appointment to expedite the assistance process. Once the application is received by Community Action, a staff person will contact you to schedule the intake and assessment appointment. You can also call Community Action at 785-836-4500 and speak with a Family Empowerment Specialist.
